Meet Alex Schueli, CEO / Founder of Baendit Eyewear
What advice would you have for someone looking to get into the same role and industry as you?
What?? As a competitor? DONT DO IT! :) But seriously, don’t..
What have you learnt from your years working in the industry?
To always keep the ball rolling, never put anything on hold, roadmaps rarely work anyways and eventually everything is going to come together.... or not -- but never let perfection get in the way of effectiveness. Think of “Pareto’s principle” to multitasking, which in a startup is fundamental, to avoid going mad.
What career books would you recommend reading?
Wish I read any of the thousand books that I suppose are out there. [Then maybe I] would not have taken such a convoluted path. I studied law in jurisdiction [for a country] I didn't want to live in. I then stepped into banking when I thought the whole system had lost its utility. I did a Master of Law in Arbitration but the only Arbitrators getting hired are retired judges and QCs. I then developed an app when I can barely turn on my PC. Now, I make bendable sunglasses . Literally any book would have worked. (But know, the sunglasses are actually really really cool.)
What should always be taken seriously? What should never be taken seriously?
I don't think there are absolutes in either way.
Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you? Maybe someone who has been a mentor to you? Why and how did this person impact your life?
Not really, I get inspired by a many people and usually for particular things. I am a big fan of good people.
What’s the number one thing you want to achieve in the next five years?
On an utilitarian prospective what everyone should want to achieve, which is making this world a better place. I would also really like to rule a country, even a small one with statues, morning worshipping sessions, Alex chanting and all. But I fear Alexland would clash with the better world thing.
What is your favorite Networking conversation starter / ice breaker?
The weather? really don't have a set topic…
What is your favorite Hong Kong restaurant(s)?
Where is your favorite place to brunch in Hong Kong?
I love an easy brunch at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in Causeway Bay
What is something you are looking forward to in 2015?
Im waiting for a personal drone and a memory enhancement chip. Also, an end to inequality and same opportunities for all but really not holding my breath. Maybe someday I'll be in the position of helping achieve one of them.
In order of importance, how would you rank: happiness, money, love, health, fame?
happiness, love, health, money, fame
