NOW OPEN: Juhu Beach Club, by former U.S Top Chef alumni Preeti Mistry, brings modern interpretations of Indian street food with Californian soul to Hong Kong’s Soho entertainment district. A passion project by chef-owner Preeti Mistry, Juhu Beach Club serves up a creative menu of street food bites, pavs, curries and playful drinks in a chilled out atmosphere.
First opened in the San Francisco Bay Area, Juhu Beach Club is now a huge success story that has caught the attention of the country’s top gastronomes. Recently featured by Anthony Bourdain's TV Show "Parts Unknown", in October, he describes Preeti’s food as “both familiar yet uniquely her own”. Juhu Beach Club’s Hong Kong location is her first international outpost.
Imagine the vibrant flavours of Indian street eats paired with Californian seasonal organic ingredients and American comfort food. Sounds like a match made in Indian foodie heaven to us. Bonus: we hear that the menu consists of a lot of vegetarian fare, making this a perfect spot to add to the meatless Mondays list of restaurants.
Check out the selection of Pavs, an Indian equivalent to the American slider, a mouthful of vibrant flavours, fresh spices and tangy slaws. The Vada Pav (HKD58) with fried potato puff, pickles onions and ghost pepper chutney, Chowpatty Chicken (HKD58) with grilled green chili chicken with tangy slaw or the Pork Vindalated (HKD58) with pulled pork, vindaloo bbq sauce and cilantro yogurt slaw.
Don't miss out on the 'Bhel Salad', served in retro-style ball jars, the Bhel Salad (HKD98) is not a typical salad. A colourful melody of puffed rice, persimmon, pomegranate, purple potato, tamarind chutney, peanuts and chutney, it’s crunchy, sour and sweet all at the same time.
The Bombay Sandwich (HKD118), one of the restaurant’s most popular items, plays on the classic American grilled cheese sandwich with an Indian twist. Find comfort in the pressed warm bread with melted cheese, roasted beetroot, sliced potatoes and cilantro chutney, dipped into the tangy tomato soup on the side with clove, ginger and chili heat. The Juhu Beach Club signature Holy Cow Short Rib Curry (HKD258) is a melt-off-the-bone braised short rib marinated in the warming flavours of smoky black cardamom paired with root veggies and lemon rice.
