Why high intensity training beats all types of training

6 August 2016

HIIT stands for high intensity interval training. There are so many beneficial ways to workout, however high intensity training is one the most effective and I'll tell you why. It is short bursts of exercise and rest, which allows your body to burn fat more effectively. You don't want to just be running on the treadmill for an hour, you want to push yourself out of your comfort zone for that working set. It is a shorter period of time allowing you to give 100% effort and a good enough recovery time.

Don’t get me wrong, strength training is great for you and you can incorporate that into a HIT workout. It’s more beneficial putting them together in one workout as you are done in half the time, getting great cardiovascular training in to improve all fitness levels as well as increasing lean muscle mass through strength training to help burn fat, build strength and tone that body.

Anyone who has been on a diet knows that it’s hard to not lose muscle mass along with fat. While steady state cardio seems to encourage muscle loss, studies show that both weight training and HIIT workouts allows you to preserve your hard-earned muscles whilst ensuring most of the weight loss comes from fat stores.

Lastly, another great benefit of high intensity training that you may not know is that it creates an “after burn” effect. This means that you continue to burn calories after your workout is over for a longer period of time.

So get on it! Do it anywhere in half the time – Win/win!
